Chocolate sourdough. Why did it take us this long?
The Vegetarian by Han King, winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature. Just read it. It’s weird and captivating. Yeong-hye can no longer eat meat because of a dream—which sets off a series of events that only get stranger as she asserts her independence through this small but bold act.
Philosophy Break—a great newsletter I discovered via novelist
’s Substack. The founder concisely breaks down a philosophical concept every Sunday. This week it was “How to Debate with ‘the Other Side.’”A persistent thought: Why are the only shops that open in my neighbourhood either DENTISTS, BARBERS, and CANNABIS DISPENSARIES? Oh, and I can’t forget the plethora of RAW PET FOOD. Are there no other needs? Comments are welcome.
Of note: An acorn fell on my nose while I was biking home from a mammogram and now I have a scar. It was exceptionally bad timing to be biking under the tree at the precise moment the acorn shook loose (or maybe it catapulted itself?), landing smack on the side of my nose. It was shocking enough to make me cry.
I binged 4 episodes of The Diplomat while the cousins were having a Mario Kart tournament with Simon. Keri Russell with her tussled hair and diplomatic savvy—I’m really feeling it.
The show creator—Deborah Cahn—has written many episodes of The West Wing so now I’m inspired to go back and start that iconic series.
I was brainstorming with Chatgpt about different series for my Substack. It suggested I make a series about mothering and my laundry room. Like the kids hiding under the laundry or me writing about other things besides doing laundry as a radical act. Because Chatgpt is language model that is just predicting the next word, I am fascinated by the notion that “laundry room” might be the next best words…certainly not MY next words. Might you though like to read a series on the laundry room? Do tell!
Once in a while I make a good solid purchase. These Hunter boots, purchased at the Crescent School garage sale are one of those purchases. (Simon’s family are garage sale pros and I am a convert.) Save the date for next year!

Don't forget opticians! Apparently our main block can support TWO eyeglasses shops...but very little else.
On #5, so sorry for that☹️ These weird mishaps are things, that I often (but briefly) mentally pause and THINK…how the heck did that happened? It doesn’t make sense. Worse if it’s on those days that you are more accident prone— gravity mini target practice hmmm?🤔
